Come to the Speech and Sweets and Watch the NDA Speech Team Perform!

Friday May 10th at 7:00 pm, the NDA Speech and Debate team will host Speech & Sweets–a chance to eat delicious desserts and see what Speech and Debate is all about as our state qualifiers perform! Tickets are 5.00 for students and 10 for adults free for 8th graders!

Ada Ogbonna ’19 Receives a $1,000 Scholarship in Speech Contest

Ada Ogbonna ’19  placed as a winner the ProMedica Flower Hospital Auxiliary speech contest for the third year in a row. Her freshman year she won first, second her sophomore year and this year she won first again!  Each year, the Flower Hospital Auxiliary gives high school students a prompt for writing a speech around a current health issue.  This year’s prompt was to speak about kids and contact sports. In 2017, Ada won second place and in 2016, she was awarded first place for her speech about the effects of heroin on teenagers and society. As the first place winner, Ada was awarded a one thousand dollar scholarship and gave her speech at the May 23 meeting of the Auxiliary held at the Highland Meadows Country Club in Sylvania.

Speech/Debate Team Wins Districts, Sends 26 to States and Has Three National Finalists!

Notre Dame Academy has 26 young women qualify for the Ohio High School Speech League (OHSSL) State Tournament. The team is also OHSSL Tarhe Trails District Champions!

Three NDA students are also National Speech Qualifiers and will compete in Alabama in June. Congratulations to:

Hope Thayer who will compete in Informative Speaking

Sadie Kaplan who will compete in U.S. Extemporaneous Speaking

Caroline Shull who will compete in Dramatic Interpretation

NDA Speech and Debate Team Named Top 8% Nationally

Congrats to NDA Speech and Debate Team, which has once again been named as a member of the 200 Club by the Speechanddebate.org. We are in the top 8% of teams in the nation from schools of all sizes!

The National Speech and Debate Association Club award demonstrates outstanding commitment to teaching students essential life skills—including communication, research, listening, writing, and organization. Every year, schools can earn club awards for achieving degrees in the Honor Society. The 200 Club honors a school that earned 200 or more degrees last year. Notre Dame is one of the nation’s largest National Forensic League honorary chapters.
