"...This is who we are. This is what we do. This is what we bring to the future."

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What is the mission of Notre Dame Academy?

Notre Dame Academy, a Catholic college preparatory school for young women, educates in the tradition, vision, and principles of the Sisters of Notre Dame. We empower students to be intellectually curious, passionately faith-filled, and socially responsible servant leaders.

When Notre Dame Academy first opened its doors in 1904, the Sisters of Notre Dame did so with a mission to educate young women and empower them to be intellectually curious, passionately faith-filled, and socially responsible servant leaders. The mission of the Sisters remains strong and woven into the fabric of today’s NDA.

Do you have to be Catholic to attend NDA?

No. NDA welcomes students of all faith traditions, however, students are expected to take religion classes and attend monthly all-school masses, prayer services, and retreats. We follow the Sisters of Notre Dame’s mission to “proclaim God’s goodness and compassionate love for people of all faiths and cultures.”

What are the advantages of an all-girls education?

At an all-girls school, girls occupy all roles.

Research done by the Goodman Research Group, The Girls’ School Experience: A Survey of Young Alumnae of Single-Sex Schools, states that 93% of girls’ school graduates say they were offered greater leadership opportunities than co-educated peers.

All-girls schools often foster a strong sense of sisterhood and community. This supportive environment can lead to lasting friendships and a strong network of alumnae. Girls in single-sex schools often feel more empowered and confident. They are more likely to speak up in class, participate actively, and take on leadership roles without the social pressures that can be present in co-educational settings.

How can I sign my daughter up as an Eagle for a Day?

How is the Catholic faith woven into school life?

  • Worship
  • A culture of prayer

  • Cultivating socially responsible servant leaders

How challenging is the curriculum at NDA?

Notre Dame Academy is a college preparatory school. We offer classes for your daughter to build a schedule that fits her learning style. Three types of classes are offered: College Prep, Honors and Advanced Placement, and International Baccalaureate (IB). NDA currently offers 8 AP and 22 IB classes. What types of academic support are available?

At Notre Dame Academy, we empower students to be intellectually curious. Our comprehensive resources foster a supportive environment based on faith and understanding. Our students feel safe, heard, and connected. Essential support for our students includes a student-centered schedule with Block Scheduling, Counseling Team and Intervention Services, Link Crew, peer tutoring, and Math Lab.

Does NDA have an entrance exam?

There is no entrance exam for Notre Dame Junior Academy or Notre Dame Academy. NDA does use the High School Placement Test (HSPT) as part of the ninth-grade admissions process as a way for us to determine recommendations for schedules.

This test is offered in December - as well as additional test dates in Spring. If your daughter attends a Metro-Toledo Catholic Elementary school, she will take the HSPT at her current school.

The HSPT also gives your daughter the chance to earn scholarships. For more information about the HSPT, click HERE.

Do NDA students wear uniforms?

Yes. The iconic plaid skirt that our students currently wear has been around for 40 years and counting. For students who wish to not wear a skirt, solid pants in the colors of white, black, navy, or gray are appropriate.

All uniform items can be purchased at Used Uniform sales throughout the late spring - early fall or through the SchoolBelles Uniform store.

What time does school start and end? What time does the building open?

The first bell rings at 8:15 a.m. with the final bell ringing at 3:05 p.m. On most Wednesdays, there is a late start of 8:45 a.m. with dismissal at 3:05 p.m. If there are schedule changes, parents will be notified through the Weekly Update.

Are scholarships and other types of financial assistance available?

A Notre Dame Academy education is attainable and affordable. To meet families’ varying needs, NDA offers numerous ways to offset tuition. In addition to the State of Ohio’s EdChoice scholarship (now available to all Ohio students), NDA offers an array of discounts and need-based assistance in the form of tuition grants and scholarships.

While the financial aid process may seem daunting, rest assured that our Finance team will walk you through each step of the EdChoice application and financial assistance process to ensure your out-of-pocket cost is minimized.
