Bold. Brilliant. Beautiful. Blessed.

Arts

Our goal is to help all students who take classes or participate in the arts at Notre Dame Academy to achieve their personal best.

This shows in the wide variety of classes offered in each area as well as the district, state, national, and international recognition our students and programs have received.

Theatre

At NDA, theatre is about opportunity! Because we have a 900 seat auditorium that can transform into a blackbox backstage theatre, we are the only Catholic school in the Toledo area that can stage all our productions in our own theatre. Performance opportunities are available through NDA’s fall musical, spring play, and student-directed one-acts. NDA has also had the honor of being invited to perform at the prestigious Edinburgh Theatre Fringe Festival in Scotland, with successful performances in 2012 and 2016, and 2019.

Leadership opportunities abound as student directors and stage managers run the show. IB juniors direct one acts for junior academy and high school students. Stage crew opportunities involve building sets, running lights, sounds, and projections, doing makeup and making costumes. NDA students have followed their dreams in college, and professionally, onstage and as stage managers, light, and sound designers.

Voice

If you love to sing, NDA has three ways you can let your voice ring out:

  • Women’s Chorus is a non-auditioned ensemble consisting of singers of all grade levels. They perform several concerts a year have have sung the national anthem at 53 Field on opening game day for the Toledo Mud Hens. Singers can also compete in solo and ensemble competitions.

  • Bel Canto is a continuation of the Women’s Chorus curriculum at an accelerated pace and is open to those who have participated in Women’s Chorus and completed a successful audition or by special director recommendation. In addition to the Women's Chorus performances, Bel Canto sings throughout Northwest Ohio/Southeast Michigan at charity events and liturgies, and travels to festivals and competitions throughout the year.

  • The Key of She is an a cappella group modeled after the east coast collegiate ensembles. The members write their own arrangements of popular songs for performance at school and community events.

Music

Have you always wanted to learn to play an instrument? Or do you want to take your skills to a new level? NDA has opportunities for both.

  • NDA Orchestra is a non-competing ensemble that welcomes instrumentalists of all grade and skill levels.

  • Honors Orchestra is a select group with more performance and leadership opportunities.

  • IB Music (HL or SL) is a two-year course where you’ll listen and analyze music from across the world throughout history, making connections across genres, cultures, and time.
