Tradition Never Graduates - Laura (Zeigler) Mishler ’82

After more than 20 years of “retirement,” Laura (Zeigler) Mishler ’82 has joined NDA’s Finance Office as the EdChoice coordinator.

Laura attended Eastern Michigan University after graduating from NDA, with a plan to study nursing, but life took her in a different direction – back to the University of Toledo, where she earned her degree in accounting. She worked for her father’s accounting firm, where she specialized in small business accounting, and “retired” when her daughter Mallory was born in 2000.

But retirement didn’t equate to a break for Laura. In addition to raising her four children – including NDA alumnae Aubrey ’17 and Mallory ’19 – she volunteered at Christ the King parish, where she taught second grade religious education for 18 years, served on the parish finance council, and still counts the church’s weekly offertory collection. Several months ago, Laura was contemplating a return to work, but it wasn’t until she connected with NDA’s finance manager after brunch one Sunday that her return to NDA became a reality.

As NDA’s EdChoice coordinator, Laura works with families to help them navigate Ohio’s EdChoice application and paperwork and tracks student attendance, which is a requirement of the scholarship.

In her free time, Laura loves working on projects in her historic home in Toledo’s Old West End, spending time with her children and grandchildren, and reading for pleasure.
