NDJA Students Wins Ohio Flag/Poster Design Contest

Published: April 8, 2022

Two NDJA students each received first place in their grade category for the annual State of #Ohio competition to design the Ohio Youth Art Month (YAM) flag and digital design for the state poster. Seventh grader Maddie Jeffer's digital poster received first-place for her digital creation and seventh grader Esther Sohn for the first-place flag design.

For the first time ever, Esther's was selected among all of the grade levels to be produced as the Ohio State YAM 2022 Flag! This means Esther's design was created as two 3’ x 5’ flags: the first is flown in Washington DC for the month of March to celebrate the importance of art education to our education and youth and the second flag is produced for display at the National Art Education Association Conference held this year in NYC. According to https://www.ohioarted.com/yam-flag-design.html the YAM Flag contest is both a state and national contest while the graphic contest is a statewide contest. Their artwork is made into a flag or posters to represent Ohio. Graphic designs were used to promote and celebrate YAM in Ohio. Esther received a 3’ X 5’ flag of her design for NDA which is displayed for all students to see in the NDA dining commons and her art was also made into a postcard. All winners received an official certificate from the Office of Governor Mike DeWine, stamped with a gold seal. #brilliant #bold #beautiful
