Bishop Thomas' 2026 Visit

Published: April 10, 2026

Bishop Daniel Thomas visited NDA to celebrate Easter liturgy with the Notre Dame Academy community this week.

After Mass, he spent time with NDA junior and seniors, sharing about his life as Bishop of the Diocese of Toledo and answering their questions that could be, in his words, “about anything.”

He shared that he had thought about his vocation to religious life since he was only seven years old, when he began to feel that the Lord was calling him to the priesthood.

When asked about a good habit that every Catholic teenager should try to adopt, Bishop Thomas challenged the students to make a “simple commitment to some time in silence and daily prayer.” He suggested they remember a prayer made up of just eight words: “Lord, help me to want what you want.”

He told the girls that some of the best parts of being Bishop of the Toledo diocese include being around young people, celebrating sacraments, and preaching – as well as the rich diversity in the 19 counties that make up the Diocese.

He left them with this advice: “Young people have a lot to figure out, so I would share with you the first words that Saint John Paul II said as Pope: ‘Do not be afraid.’ Because Jesus, the Christ, is with you.”

After the Q&A session, Bishop Thomas enjoyed lunch and fellowship with students, administration, faculty, and staff.
